UB Report: Nihilego

Description

Nihilego is a large extra dimensional creature similar to our own world’s Frillish and Jellicent. UB-01 was as the code suggests, the first discovered Ultra Beast, and its first documented appearance was the result of an experiment conducted by the Aether Foundation, in which a wormhole had been torn in space-time leading to the creature’s home world. It is unknown what the Aether Foundation was attempting at the time, however some time later the Foundation’s president Lusamine was admitted to a hospital in Kanto to treat a severe overexposure to a neurotoxin identical to that which is produced by this alien Pokémon.

Biologically Nihilego is one of the most alien creatures discovered via wormhole, where ultra-beasts such as Pheromosa, Guzzlord, and Buzzwole are certainly alien, they are still carbon-based; analysis of Nihilego’s bio-chemistry shows that it is a silicon-based lifeform. While it resembles a creature one might find deep within our oceans, Nihilego is more analogous of rock Pokémon. Its physical form resembles and acts like a cross between glass and surgical tubing, its flexible surface allowing it to stretch and flex to bind its target. Nihilego is a highly venomous parasite, latching on to its targets and feeding off of it, however it has an interesting way of preserving itself. The neurotoxin Nihilego injects into its targets cause hallucinations as well as a loss of inhibitions. These hallucinations seem to be tailored to make the target obsessive and violently protective of the Nihilego which has been feeding on them. Lusamine, president of the Aether Foundation, was found to have been madly pursuing a Nihilego she has become separated from after contact. Other subjects exposed were found to experience similar problems if left untreated, acting as though the creature was their own child in many cases, and violently preventing anybody from coming close to the Pokémon. Overexposure leaves the victim in a catatonic state, unable to do anything on their own as their systems begin to shut down.

Nihilego seems to be from a region dubbed the “Ultra Deep Sea” by some observers, dwelling in a dark, ocean floor-like environment. However the location lacks water, which makes sense as liquid water would prove harmful to a silicon-based lifeform. Rather it has been proposed that the world Nihilego comes from is a high-density atmosphere world, heavier gases settling lower on the planet than they would in our own, Nihilego inhabiting an oxygen rich location. The high pressure atmosphere would also explain the lack of liquid water, as the pressure would cause it to form ice at a more moderate temperature. Thick layers of gases in the sky above this landscape blot out the light leaving the area shrouded in shadows, with only bioluminescent plant life and fungus providing the majority of the light.

Due to its shape, color, and transparency rumors of a ghost girl or those referring to Nihilego as a child have been reported. In their defense the creature does seem to have an interest in small objects such as balls and other toys, seemingly quizzical as to what they are, though their interest may just be Nihilego inspecting the potential food-source.

-NOTICE-

Much like with other ultra-beasts, Nihilego seems to be no different as an alternate color pattern seems to have been spotted, possessing a golden color rather than the glassy blue which most Nihilego seem to sport.

I have always wondered how Nihilego is able to float. Is it because of magnetism? The chemicals in the air? Psychic powers?
